Govt. Taluka Library, Ponda, Goa | Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library

Introduction

Govt. Taluka Library Ponda was established on 16th Nov. 2002 on the premises of the P.W.D. building on 1st Floor, near Municipality Garden, Ponda. This Library benefits not only the people of Ponda Taluka but also the Library users from nearby Taluka Bicholim, Curchorem, Tiswadi, Salcette, etc. Ponda is the center of educational institutions, Students of Schools, Higher Secondary Schools, Professional Colleges, Homeopathy College, Ayurvedic College, Pharmacy College, etc. benefit from this Library Employees from Govt. Departments, banks, schools, etc., and the general public also visit the library for their recreational & informational needs. Teachers, Doctors, Engineers, Businessmen, Lawyers, journalists, and ex-servicemen also benefit from this Library. The total library collection is 33577 .. Library membership is 11699 to date.

Library working hours:

Monday to Saturday:9.00 am to 6.30 pm

Sunday: 9.30 am to 5.45 pm

Public holiday closed.

Reading Sections

This library subscribes 17 newspapers and 53 periodicals/magazines are provided to the general public and the student Community. Every year around 150 Diwali issues are made available for the public. Different types of magazines are available for the use of students to enhance their knowledge for their studies and to answer Competitive Exams.

Reference Section

The Reference Section caters to the needs of readers for their research work. This section has 5235 books. All books are arranged in a classified order. Reference sources such as Encyclopedias, Yearbook, General Knowledge, Dictionaries, and subject-wise reference books are available for library users. This section has a rich collection of books on Goan history, culture, law & society.

Children’s Section

The children’s section has 4021 books of general knowledge, children’s magazines, Children’s Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, General knowledge, Storybooks, etc. which attracts many children.

Circulation Section

This Section has 24201 books. 284 CDs/DVDs are available for the use of the public. An online catalog facility is available for the users for locating information and book of their choice. Books are classified according to Dewey's decimal classification.
