Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library is a State-of-the-art edifice situated near the Panaji bus stand and it is easily accessible. It covers a built-up area of 12,100 sq. mts. The Library is named after Krishnadas Shama, the founder of Konkani Prose and also known as the Father of Konkani literature, in recognition of his contribution to Konkani in the 16th century.
Library has more than 3 lakh books in different languages like English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani, and Portuguese since its inception.
The library offers modern facilities like a check-in/Check-Out Kiosk and book Drop Box using RFID Technology. The Library was established in the year 1832 and was shifted to the new building in the year 2012.
Government Town (Nagar) Library, Sankhali Goa was inaugurated on 03rd July 2021 at the hands of Dr. Pramod Sawant (Hon. Chief Minister of Goa) in the presence of Shri Govind Gaude (Hon. Minister for Art & Culture) in the spacious Ravindra Bhavan Premises covering area of 242 sq. mts.
State-of-the-art Town Library from its inauguration has been promoting itself as “Student Friendly Library” with appropriate, comfortable and ambience for the Library users. Library is equipped with effective and efficient reading infrastructure to deliver information services, which provide an information rich environment that supports and encourages excellence in Academics for Students.
The Library is equipped with decent, attractive, colored Furniture, stacked with 16620 Books of different subjects in English, Marathi, Hindi and Konkani Languages along with 56 Magazines and 12 Newspapers to provide an attractive and inviting atmosphere in harmony with the purpose of Library. The Library has enrolled 1159 Members as of 20th July 2024 through Membership Chain of mouth-to-mouth Publicity, Educational Institution visits and through Library Extension services.
