Introduction

Government Taluka library, Bicholim was established on 15th February 1984 in the primary school building of the Education Department. The library serves Students of 3 high schools, 1 higher secondary school, 1 college, 1 I.T.I., and 1 Govt. polytechnic. For their assignments and study purpose. Employees from Govt. Departments, banks, schools, etc., and the general public visit the library for their recreational & informational needs. The total number of the membership to date is 2238. The library collection comprises books in different languages like English, Hindi, Konkani, Marathi Sanskrit, Urdu, and Portuguese. Books are classified according to Dewey's decimal classification. The total number of books to date is 18580.

 

Library working :

 

Monday to Friday 9.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Saturday 9.30 a.m. to 5.45 pm.

Sunday & Public holiday closed.

Reading Section

The Library subscribes to 19 newspapers and 111 periodicals/magazines are provided to the general public and student Community. This year 168 Diwali issues are made available for the public. Different types of magazines are available for the use of students to enhance their knowledge for their studies and to prepare for Competitive Exams.

Reference Section

Reference sources such as Encyclopedias, Yearbooks, General Knowledge books, Dictionaries, and other subject reference books are available for library users. The section has 772 Reference books for the use of readers.

Children’s Section:

The children’s section has 1112 books of general knowledge, children's magazines, Children’s Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, General knowledge, Storybooks, etc. which attracts many young readers.

Circulation Section

This Section has 16696 books, 280 CDs-ROMs available for the use of the public. An online catalog facility is available for the users for locating information and book of their choice. Issue/return of books to members is carried out manually.
