Government Town (Nagar) Library, Sankhali Goa was inaugurated on 03rd July 2021 at the hands of Dr. Pramod Sawant (Hon. Chief Minister of Goa) in the presence of Shri. Govind Gaude (Hon. Minister for Art & Culture) in the spacious Ravindra Bhavan Premises covering an area of 173 sq. mts. For functional convenience, the library is constituted into different sections such as Circulation Section, Reference Section, Children Corner, Goa Books Section, Membership and Book Issue/Return Counter, Magazine/Newspaper Section, Administrative Block, and Personal Study Reading Area. The library is functioning from 9.30 am to 5.45 pm except on Sundays from the day of inauguration. The library is equipped with required furniture and fittings along with 11500 Books covering various subjects in English, Marathi, Hindi, and Konkani languages with 56 Magazines and 12 Newspapers. New 1115 Books will be added to the Library as per the requirements of readers till December 2021. The library has enrolled a total of 341 Members as of 20th January 2022. A new Membership drive has been started through the Membership chain of Mouth to Mouth Publicity.
Government Town (Nagar) Library from its inception has been providing free reading and information services to the local community and surrounding village communities. Library main aim is to fulfill the information needs of the students of the surrounding Government College, Goa Institute of Management, Government Higher Secondary, and four local Schools and the general public who visit the Library for their recreational and information needs. The library is also providing the readers with books on demand from the Central Library and Town Libraries through the library Loan facility. Members of the Central Library are also allowed to Issue and return the Books of the Government Town (Nagar) Library.
The future vision of Government Town (Nagar) Library is to provide a full-fledged Entrance Exam Section for the students to pursue their career and professional growth. Library readers will be helped in using e-resources of the Central Library as well as through the Digital Library of India

Library Section

1. Lending/Circulation Section:

The library is well stacked with 10675 English, Marathi, Hindi, and Konkani Language books available for the public.

2. Reference Section:

The Reference section is equipped with 1712 Reference Books and Entrance Exam Books, which create a reading-friendly atmosphere for students.

3. Children’s Section:

The Reference section is equipped with 1712 Reference Books and Entrance Exam Books, which create a reading-friendly atmosphere for students.

4. Goa Books Section:

The Goa books section has around 316 books written by Goan Authors. The book comprises Goa’s History, Culture, Biographies, Goan food etc.

5. Book Issue/Return & Membership Counter:

Readers can avail of Library Membership by depositing Rs. 50/- along with I.D. proof and a Photograph for the issue of one Book and one Magazine for One Month for home reading.

6. Newspaper/Magazine Section:

The library has kept 12 Newspapers and 56 Magazines for General Public for daily reading and Current awareness.

Library Service

1. Book Lending

After enrolling the Membership, readers avail the facility of lending books and magazines for home reading for a period of one month and can renew the book for another one month if required.

2. Inter-Library Loan

Through Inter Library Loan Service, Library allows patrons to access and borrow materials that are not available in the Library by borrowing them from Central Library, Panaji and other Libraries under Central Library, thereby promoting collaboration and increased access to resources

3. Reference Services

Reference Service is directly concerned with assistance to readers in securing information and in using the resources of the library in study and research within Library premises. Library readers obtain services through telephone or seek assistance through messages or even E-mail.

4. Referral Services

An information seeker is directed to Institution or expert outside the library where from the information may be obtained and are helped through Central Library website.

5. Reprography

Library users have easy access to photocopying facilities, which enable them to reproduce required material from books and journals.

6. Document Delivery Service:

Document Delivery is user-friendly service for Library users to use WhatsApp or E-mail to contact librarians, to locate general library information and seek assistance when using the Library.

Raghoba L. Pednekar, Librarian, Goa Institute of Management was honored as Esteem Librarian on Librarian's Day. Students of Gurudas P Gauns Memorial High School, Sankhali were present.
