Govt. Town library, Quepem Goa
Introduction
Government Town Library Quepem was inaugurated on 26th September 2017. Presently the library is housed in premises allotted by Quepem Municipal Council on lease. The total collection of the library is 8,508 books in diverse languages—English, Marathi, Hindi, and Konkani —besides newspapers and periodicals, which are homed in this library. The library has various sections viz. Circulation, Periodical, Newspaper, own book reading, Reference, Children, and Goa. The library is kept open on Saturdays. As of January 2018, the library claimed a membership of 197.
Government Town Library started with the objective of providing a free public library and information service to the people of Quepem and surrounding neighboring villages. The library serves the students of 5 High schools, 2 Higher Secondary schools, a college, a special school for mentally challenged kids, and a nearby primary school, library also acts as a community center for informal education. Employees from Govt. Departments, Banks, Schools, post-office, Advocates, Animal vatenaries, Agricultural needs, etc., and the general public visit library for their recreational & Informational needs. It serves the needs of all members of the community without any distinction of class, creed, occupation, race, sex, and especially those of neo-literates and children.
Many users visit the library every day. Most of the users visit the library to attain the knowledge to answer competitive exams. Many users of the library excelled in GPSC/NET/SET/ Banking/CA and other competitive exams.
Library Section:
Circulation Section
Circulation Section has a collection of books in four languages viz. English, Hindi, Marathi, and Konkani. Books are issued for a maximum period of one month.
Periodical Section:
Newspapers, magazines, and journals are kept in this section. All leading newspapers and magazines are available in this section for readers. At present, the library subscribes to 17 leading dailies in different languages and 33 magazines in all categories to serve user needs.
Own Books Reading Section:
Own Books Reading Section is adjacent to the periodical section. Readers and users are being permitted to carry their study books, laptops, and notebooks. Students avail maximum benefit of this section.
Reference Section
This section has a very good collection of encyclopedias, handbooks, and other useful reference sources. This section houses materials that are geared to the needs of students and research scholars.
Children Section
This section comprises Reference books, Toys, and Children’s Periodicals. Members can borrow books and magazines for one month after availing of membership.
