Introduction
 
 

The District Library located at Navelim Salcete Goa is named after Dr. Francisco Luis Gomes who was a great Goan parliamentarian, freedom fighter & social worker. the foundation stone for the library was laid on 5th February 2007 and inaugurated on 21 st November 2010. The main aim of the library is to provide educational and informational needs to the society along with children’s and neo-literates.

Library Timings Monday to Friday: 9.00 am. to 7.00 pm.

Saturday & Sunday: 9.30 am. to 5.45 pm.

Closed on Public Holidays

Circulation Section

The circulation section is housed on the ground floor. It spreads over 7308 sq. ft. It has over 40,000 book which covers all subjects areas. This section has a very good collection of books in different languages like English, Hindi, Marathi & Konkani.

Periodical Section

A Periodical section is arranged on the first floor. Newspapers, Magazines, and Journals are available in this section. At present, the library is subscribing to 24 leading dailies in all categories to serve the user needs.

Reference Section

The reference section is located on the second floor. It spreads over 4100 sq. ft. It has 10,000 books which cover all subject areas. this section has a very good collection of encyclopedias, handbooks & other reference books.

Children Section

The children section is on the third floor and consist of 9100 books, 274 CD’s/DVD’s, toys and games, the section also consists of children reference book, periodicals & books for home lending. Internet browsing center is also available for children. the

Goa Section

Goa Section is on the 4th floor and has over 3864 books which included 2253 on Goan studies. This section also has legal books to support the legal fraternity & reprographic facilities are available for researchers and academic assignments.

Computer Section

This section is on the second floor of the library. The library users can browse the internet by paying an amount of Rs. 10/- per hour. They can also download the information & can take printouts.

Braille Section

Braille section is on the first floor & special care is taken to facilitates differently abled person with equipment & books. This section has 36 Braille books, Braille sculptures, braille biological charts, and geographical maps.

Conference Hall

The conference hall has facilities for conducting workshops/conferences/seminars/meetings or presentations. It has LCD projectors with a screen for any kind of visual presentation.

Lecture Hall

The Lecture Hall has an elegant structure. It has aesthetically designed and fully air-conditioned with a seating capacity of 68 people at a time. It has excellent acoustic features, an LCD projector, and an audio system.
