Introduction

Government Town Library, Cuncolim, is housed in the premises allotted by the Cuncolim Municipal Council. The library was inaugurated on 19th December 2018, at the hands of the honorable Minister of Art and Culture, Shri. Govind Gaude, in the presence of Chief Guest Shri Babu Kavlekar and other dignitaries. The total collection of the library is 14,218 books in diverse languages: English, Konkani, Marathi, and Hindi, besides newspapers and periodicals. The library has various sections: Circulation, Reference, Periodicals/Newspaper, and the Children's section. The library is kept open on Saturdays. As of date, the library has claimed a membership of 373.
The Government Town library was started with an aim of serving the community and providing free information to the public to satisfy their informational, educational, and recreational needs. It serves the need for information of the students of schools, higher secondary schools, and colleges in and around the area. The services are provided irrespective of their caste, color, greed, race, occupation, age, sex, and will thrive to serve even better for the community. The library intends and will thrive to provide resources and services in a variety of media to meet the informational needs and become a lifelong learning center. The library is visited by many users to seek information and attain knowledge. The library is divided into the following sections:

Library Section:

Circulation Section

Circulation section has books in four different languages viz Konkani, English, Marathi and Hindi and has a collection of 9335 books. Books and back issues of periodicals are issued for a maximum period of one month and further renewed on the request and need of the user.

Periodical Section

The sections display newspapers, magazines and journals. The library subscribes to 26 leading local and National dailies in different languages. The library also subscribes to 68 magazines in English, Hindi, Marathi and Konkani to cater the needs of the library users.

Reference Section

The reference section houses the books which are meant to aid in research activities and higher level learning by providing accessible information in all subjects with a broader view. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, guides etc. are available in the section and are only accessible inside the library premises. The library reference section has a total collection of 1000 books in three languages: English, Hindi and Marathi.

Goa Section

The Goa section houses books especially on Goan history written by Goan writers. Users prefer a separate section as this helps them to choose books as per their liking and learn more about the beautiful Goa. The books in this section are mainly for reference and are not allowed to be issued and have a total collection of 256 books.

Children Section

The children’s section has a diverse collection of books, including fiction, non-fiction, graphic, informative encyclopedias, reference books in different languages along with games, charts and toys for their recreational activities. The total collection of the section is 2849 books, 48 toys, 7 game,s and 5 charts. The section also houses children's periodicals. The section is well used by the children members of all age groups.
